IWA National Trailboat Festival |
“The festival will be held on the 4 mile Grantham to Woolsthorpe section of the Grantham Canal, and will give visitors a chance to discover the eastern end of this forgotten scenic waterway, as it traverses beautiful countryside to enter the Vale of Belvoir. The first boats to navigate the Grantham canal this century will demonstrate the many community benefits that would come with full restoration of the canal through to Nottingham.
There will be boats and boat trips, craft demonstrations, fun activities, side shows, trade stands, music and much more throughout the weekend – so come along and join in.” [Extract from IWA leaflet]
Dave Carnell Harbour Master for the event says “The site is that of 12 years ago which some of your members attended. Presently BW are carrying out repairs to the top lock, upper cill replacement etc. The slipway is about one and a half miles from the site, Denton Wharf, and nearer Grantham. The festival will involve local community activities, canoeing, fishing, steam powered trip launch and local produce, ie Tastes of Lincolnshire. We also intend providing coach tours to other parts of the Grantham that have been benefiting from WRG work camps. I will provide updates as and when things are confirmed or develop.”
