WBOC to explore the River Medway over the May Day weekend
The following was sent out by Bernard Snell (Grey Owl) to members who are on the WBOC email ring but in case you are not on there please see the information below.
As mentioned in a previous email the Environment Agency down here in Kent have invited Wilderness Boat members to come and explore the River Medway now that they have a brand new slipway and services at Allington Lock near Maidstone.
After some discussion the date chosen is the early Bank Holiday Weekend 2 – 4 May 2009 and I do hope you will be able to support fellow members (there are just 3 of of us down here) to a not too taxing cruise following an official ‘Hello’ on the Saturday morning 2nd May.
There are just 9 locks to negotiate and 20 miles of wonderful waterway to the head of navigation beyond Tonbridge through the ‘Garden of England’ and I feel sure you will not be disappointed.
For weekend only members we will arrange transport back to Maidstone to recover cars and trailers but hope most of you might be able to stay longer.
I hope to arrange some special rates for members as I know some of you are concerned at the general costing on an excursion like this and particularly in these turbulent times, but the bottom line is that we need to support and raise awareness especially where slipway are concerned at local and national levels when possible. More information and full details in Wilderness New in March.
Hope you all had a great Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year.
Regards
Bernard
ps If you are able to arrive on the Friday 1st May the ‘Medway Boats’ invite you to join them for a meal at the famous ‘Malta Inn’ Allington at 7-30 (please book direct with me for this one) ”
