The slipway at Melihan-sur Garonne is well laid out and easy to use. It is situated right next to the Halte Fluvial, which is managed by an English couple. Mike Ricketts can be contacted on 0033 06.79.11.08.07 or meilhan[at]minervoiscruisers.com . They also manage the 2 star campsite next door. Here you can park your car and make use of the facilities. Car parking is 2,10 €/day.
The village itself sports two restaurants, a baker and a small supermarket. The usual big supermarkets can all be found at Marmande about 15 minutes by car. Marmande also has a train station that is hourly served by trains along the Garonne valley. From the station you can take an also hourly bus to Marmande for the pricy sum of 1 €. A Taxi sets you back around 25 €.
By boat it is a leisurely daytrip to Buzet-de-Baisse, where you can either stay on the canal or lock down to the Baisse or the lower Lot.
All this makes Melihan a very pleasant and useful starting point for a journey along the Canal de Garonne.
